About
Katie Ikesaki is a current Masters student of Mary Karen Clardy at the University of North Texas. She received her Bachelor of Music from the University of Arizona with Brian Luce. Recently, she performed Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata for Flute and Piano Mvt. IV at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Staff Showcase as the winner of the Blue Lake Staff Solo Competition. Prior to that, she performed Aram Khachaturian's Concerto for Flute with the White Mountain Symphony Orchestra in Show Low, AZ. She has placed in the top three of the undergraduate division of the Arizona Flute Society competition in 2022 and 2023 and was a finalist for the University of Arizona President’s Concerto Competition in 2022 and 2023.
Katie is an adept soloist as well as ensemble and chamber musician, currently she performs with the North Texas Wind Symphony on flute and piccolo. Having held a position in the University of Arizona Wind Ensemble for all four years of her undergraduate career, as well as the Principal flute position in the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, she has become an excellent large-ensemble member and a skilled principal player. With experience on all flutes, from bass to piccolo, she is also a competitive flutist who values accuracy and musical expression in both performance and practice.
Katie has worked as a camp counselor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, MI for two summers, coaching large sectionals for Camp Bernstein along with performing in Blue Lake's staff ensembles. She teaches private lessons in flute, piccolo, and piano and has had private students ranging in age from 9 years-old to 76 years-old.
In the future, Katie wishes to record music for film and TV in the future along with teaching lessons and playing in a large ensemble. She has been inspired by the music of Bruno Coulais, Hans Zimmer, and John Powell and hopes that anything she records will inspire others as well. She is dedicated to her craft and artistry and looks forward to all that her flute future may bring.
